How Republicans Trick Us With Language

A great blogger named Kelly Gorski introduced me to an absolutely incredible piece of writing called "Don't Think of an Elephant" by George Lakoff.

Give yourself some time to read it...its 36 pages in pdf. It concerns Republican strategies, social theory and framing language (much like this book recommendation I posted previously.

Here is the link: Don't Think Like An Elephant.

(I probably haven't made it sound all that exciting...but if you are a person who continually wonders why people vote for Republicans NO MATTER what they do, you need to read this article!

Oh wow, I feel so honored!

I just bought the book. That pdf is just a sample. I also bought his "Morality and Politics: What Conservatives Know That Liberals Don't." Excellent so far.

Even if you don't buy the book, didn't the pdf just strike you as such common sense? It's stuff we SHOULD know but somehow, along the way of fighting politics, we completely forgot.

I explained to my husband that it felt like I had jumped too far into politics too fast without first getting the basics, and while I'm doing (better than) fine so far, knowing the basics would help me move forward much faster and help me comprehend much better.

The whole "family --> religion --> politics" schema is so clear to me now, I almost feel like an idiot for not recognizing it in the first place!
